Mobile Golf Simulator Setup: What Your Venue Needs and How the Day Runs

A Riverside Fairways mobile golf simulator needs four things at your venue: reliable access to electricity, 15 ft x 20 ft of floor space, 12 ft of ceiling clearance, and a reasonably level surface, plus a clear path to bring equipment in. Wi-Fi is a plus but not required. Our team sets up before your start time, runs play, and packs out afterward.

TLDR:

  • The footprint is 15 ft x 20 ft of floor and 12 ft of ceiling clearance.
  • Power is the one thing we cannot work without. A portable generator add-on covers remote sites.
  • A level surface and a clear load-in path matter as much as the room size.
  • Indoor setups are simplest. Outdoors works, and cover is preferred.
  • Setup happens before your start time and teardown after, so play time stays yours.
  • Play rotates, so the whole group stays together.
  • Send photos of the space before you book. That settles most questions.

Planning an event around Denham Springs, Baton Rouge, the Northshore, or New Orleans usually means juggling a venue, a guest list, and a forecast. A golf simulator adds one more question to that list: will it actually fit? This guide answers it, so you can check your space before you ever call.

Not sure your space works? Send us your date, your venue, and a few photos of the room. We will tell you before you book, not on the day.

What Does a Mobile Golf Simulator Need at Your Venue?

Most venues already have what a simulator needs. The list is short, and every item on it is something you can check with a tape measure or a quick look around.

Our setup and venue questions spell out the requirements: reliable access to electricity, 15 ft x 20 ft of floor space, 12 ft of ceiling clearance, a reasonably level surface, and a clear path to move equipment in, including doors, stairs, and parking. Wi-Fi is a plus but not required.

If you are not sure your room passes, photos settle it faster than a phone description. Here is why each requirement matters.

How Much Space Does a Golf Simulator Take Up?

Plan on a 15 ft x 20 ft area for the simulator itself. That footprint holds the screen, the hitting area, and the room around the golfer, so measure it as open floor rather than total room size.

Depth matters most. A simulator needs distance between the tee and the screen, and many launch monitors also need room on the other side of the golfer. As one example from a manufacturer, Garmin’s January 2026 Approach R10 owner’s manual places its launch monitor 6 to 8 ft behind the tee and keeps the tee at least 8 ft from the net indoors.

That is why we ask for the full 20 ft. Keep the area clear of furniture, decor, and walkways.

Venues that tend to work

Warehouse bays, conference rooms, lobbies, halls, gyms, ballrooms, and covered pavilions all work. At home, a garage or covered patio is usually the easiest spot.

Why Does Ceiling Height Matter for a Golf Simulator?

Ceiling height is about the backswing and follow-through. A low ceiling either cuts a full swing short or puts the ceiling at risk.

Garmin’s same manual tells indoor users to check for adequate ceiling height and that nothing can obstruct the backswing or follow-through. Our number for that is 12 ft of ceiling clearance. Measure to the lowest point over the hitting area, which means ceiling fans, light fixtures, beams, and ductwork count.

If drop ceilings, low beams, or chandeliers hang over your planned spot, include them in your photos.

What Kind of Power Does a Mobile Golf Simulator Need?

Power is the one requirement we cannot work around without planning. If there is somewhere to plug in, we can set up.

A standard outlet is enough. We bring our own extension cords and surge protectors, so the main thing to confirm is an outlet within reach of the setup area. If a DJ, a catering warmer, or a bounce house will share the same circuit, tell us when you book.

For outdoor outlets, ask your venue if they are GFCI protected. OSHA’s guidance on ground-fault circuit interrupters, current as of 2026, explains that a GFCI shuts off power within as little as 1/40 of a second when it detects a ground fault.

No power at all? Our package and add-on pricing includes a Power Backup add-on: a portable generator for remote locations without electricity access.

Have a field, a barn, or a lake lot in mind? Tell us where it is. The generator add-on exists for exactly that kind of site.

Can a Mobile Golf Simulator Be Set Up Outside?

Yes. An indoor setup is simplest, since indoor events are not affected by weather. Outdoors works with a little more planning.

The equipment is fairly weatherproof, so cover is not required, though it is preferred. Our event safety and liability terms also ask hosts to provide adequate cover for outdoor events, so plan on a tent, pavilion, or covered patio when you can and confirm the plan with us.

Weather calls

Rain, high wind, extreme heat, and lightning can damage the equipment and create a safety risk, so there are conditions we cannot operate in. If we have to make that call, we contact you as quickly as we can and either reschedule or refund what you paid for that event.

The National Weather Service lightning safety overview says there is no safe place outside when thunderstorms are in the area, and advises waiting 30 minutes after the last lightning or thunder before going back out.

Sun, shade and screen glare

A simulator screen is a projected image, and daylight works against it. BenQ’s 2025 guide to projectors for daytime outdoor use notes that strong ambient light can wash out the image, and that shade from trees, a canopy, or umbrellas helps reduce glare.

For an outdoor setup, plan on shade from a pavilion or tent, or time play for late afternoon and evening, and mention the time of day when you book.

What Does Event Day Look Like?

Event day is planned so that nobody on your side has to learn the equipment. Our team arrives early, sets up, runs the session, and packs out.

Setup happens before your start time and teardown after, so it does not eat into your event.

Here is how the pieces fit together.

Setup and teardown

Every package on our pricing page includes setup and teardown. Plan on about an hour and a half of setup before your start time and about an hour of teardown after, so neither eats into the hours you booked.

What we bring

The package covers the simulator, screen, and hitting area, clubs and balls, and our team on site. Left-handed clubs are available at no extra charge if you ask when you book. Closed toe shoes are a good idea.

How long play runs

Packages run 2, 4, 6, or 8 hours of simulator access: Birdie, Eagle, Champion, and All Day. Corporate events are built around your schedule, and you can add an extra hour as an add-on. Current rates for each tier are on our pricing page.

How Do Groups Rotate Through the Simulator?

Rotation is what makes a single simulator work for a crowd. One person swings at a time, and the group cycles through, so a group of eight stays together instead of splitting into foursomes that finish an hour apart.

Formats change with the event:

  • Corporate days: longest drive with a running leaderboard, closest to the pin, or a team scramble.
  • Weddings: open play through cocktail hour, with guests drifting in and out.
  • Fundraisers: longest drive or closest to the pin with a per attempt entry.
  • Kids’ parties: short rotations, with the birthday child going first each round.

For mixed groups, the Geaux Feral package adds 14 games beyond golf, with up to 8 players at once. If you are unsure your crowd will want golf at all, read why skill level does not decide who has fun.

Which Events Is a Mobile Setup Best For?

The venue requirements stay the same for every event. What changes is the format and who is playing.

Our corporate team building events page covers offices, plants, and building access. Mobile golf for weddings and receptions explains venue load-in, and kids’ birthday parties covers the Feral games and adult supervision. For a side by side look against a tee time, see how simulators compare with real courses.

What Should You Tell Us When You Book?

The more we know up front, the fewer surprises on the day. Send these details with your request:

Detail Why we ask
Date and start time Confirms availability and our arrival window
Venue address Confirms travel distance and any travel fee
Rough guest count Shapes the format and how long play should run
Photos of the space Confirms the 15 ft x 20 ft floor, 12 ft ceiling, and level surface
Load-in route Doors, stairs, and parking between the trailer and the room
Indoor or outdoor Cover, shade, and a weather backup plan
Who is coming Standard golf or the Feral package
Venue contact Lets us confirm load-in, power, and timing directly

Corporate sites should also mention any building access rules. Your date is held once the agreement is signed and any deposit has been received, so do not send invitations around a date we have not confirmed in writing.

Where we travel

We are based in Denham Springs and travel throughout Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and the Northshore are regular territory, along with Gonzales, Prairieville, Walker, Hammond, Covington, Mandeville, Slidell, Metairie, Lafayette, Gulfport, and Biloxi. Travel past a certain distance can add a fee, so tell us where your event is, and we will confirm that before you book.

What Planners Ask About Mobile Golf Simulator Setup

Here are short answers to the setup questions planners ask before booking. Our full FAQ covers booking, pricing, and event day.

How much space does a mobile golf simulator need?

Riverside Fairways asks for 15 ft x 20 ft of floor space and 12 ft of ceiling clearance, on a reasonably level surface. Garages, covered patios, halls, gyms, ballrooms, warehouse bays, and large conference rooms all tend to work. If you are unsure, send photos of the space, and we will confirm before you book.

Is Wi-Fi required to run the simulator?

No. Wi-Fi is a plus but not required. What the setup does depend on is reliable access to electricity. If your site has no power at all, the Power Backup add-on brings a portable generator for remote locations, so a field, barn, or lake lot can still work with some planning ahead.

Can the simulator be set up outdoors?

Yes. The equipment is fairly weatherproof, so cover is not required, though it is preferred. Heavy rain or high wind can pause an event or end it early if there is nowhere to move under. Shade also helps the screen, since bright daylight can wash out a projected image.

How long does setup take?

Plan on about an hour and a half of setup before your start time and about an hour of teardown after. Neither cuts into the hours you booked, and our team handles all of it. Make sure we can get into the room that early, and build that window into your venue schedule.

How many people can play at once?

One guest swings at a time, and play rotates, so a group stays together rather than splitting into foursomes. The right format depends on headcount and how long you have. The Feral package supports up to 8 players at once. Tell us both numbers and we will suggest a structure.

What happens if the weather turns on an outdoor event?

Indoor events are not affected. Outdoors, rain, high wind, extreme heat, and lightning can damage the equipment and create a safety risk. If we have to make that call, we contact you as quickly as we can and either reschedule at your convenience or refund what you paid for that event.

Ready to put the simulator on your calendar? Tell us your date, your venue, and roughly how many guests you expect. We will confirm the space works and come back with availability. No guesswork on event day.
